Coloini + Lane were appointed to design a sustainable sports hall extension to an existing community hall located in the Midlands. The existing 1970’s community centre received internal alterations to provide multi-functional rooms to ensure maximum potential whilst attracting new customers. The community hall was also be updated to provide DDA compliant access throughout and interactive meeting rooms.

The proposed design for the extension provides a multi-functional space which can be used as a sports hall, meeting room or for community events, with the new space linked to the existing building via a new internal courtyard that acts as the focal point upon entrance into the building with natural light achieved through a new feature glazed roof over.

The extension was designed to comply with Sports England height and size requirements for a Community Badminton court, incorporating renewable energy technologies and high thermal properties. The mix of hard modern materials and softer natural materials complement each other and create a striking impact upon entry to the site.
